The executives and members of Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN), a vanguard body of all journalists covering the security beat nationwide, on Sunday mourned Late DIG Israel Ajao (Rtd.), OON, NPM, mni, whose death occurred on Friday, June 3, 2022 at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

The late DIG was the pioneer Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Intelligence Unit and also a Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Force Criminal Investigations, and later Operations before his retirement in 2010 after a meritorious service to the nation.

Mourning the late cop, CRAN President, Mr. Olalekan Olabulo, described him as a cop par excellence whose service record in the police yielded tangible results.

According to Olabulo, the late DIG was particularly known for advancing community policing agenda and also passionately fought for justice in and out of uniform.

“Known for his boldness in the face of fear, late Ajao was a determined police officer who stood on the path of truth, no matter whose ox was gored.

“To all who knew him, he was also very pragmatic and hated injustice to the core.

“Given the nature of our job as crime reporters, we had cause to interface with him and he was very receptive and operated an open door policy.

“ After his retirement, he was certainly not tired as his expertise came to bear in the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps (LSNSC) which he headed and rigorously contributed to the security of the state at large.

“Although his death came as a rude shock to all, we take solace in the fact that death is a debt we all owe.

“Late DIG Isreal Ajao would be sorely missed by CRAN members and we pray for comfort for the family he left behind.

“In biding him farewell, we tow the path of the Hebrew Proverb Memorial Prayer, “Say not in grief that they are gone, but give thanks that they were yours”
