Seme Customs Command intercepts 232 parcels of Indian Hemp worth N3m, hand drugs over to NDLEA special border command

The end to the hitherto transit of narcotics and other banned drug substances through Seme Border, appears in sight, as Seme Command of the Nigerian Customs service , NCS, says it has increased its surveillance and search for drug peddlers and barons alike , with a view to arresting the alarming illicit drug trade .
This singular approach was said to have yielded great dividends recently when the command under the watch of Comptroller Bello Mohammad Jibo, intercepted 232 parcels of neatly wrapped Indian hemp, other wise known as Cannabis Sativa, with a street value of N2, 933,358,.40.
The seizure which was exhibited before Journalists yesterday, Wednesday, March 31,2021, at the Commands seizure yard , was said to be in tandem with recent renewed efforts in combating the illicit drug trade in Nigeria under the leadership of Brigadier Buba Marwa, (Rtd).
At a short handing over ceremony, Seme Border Commander of the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr. Udotong Noah Essien, who could not hide his appreciation, commended the gallant officers and men of the Nigerian Customs Service, Seme Command, for intercepting and seizing of the banned drugs along the beach line.
Commander Essien , while officially receiving the illicit drug parcels from Seme Command Customs Comptroller, Mohammed Bello Jibo, in the presence of news hunters, praised the inter Agency cooperation of the Customs boss.
The cannabis suspected to have been smuggled in from a neighbouring West Africa country ,is expected to be destroyed at a later date.
Jibo in his statement while handing over the drugs, noted that the fight against drugs was for all members of the society ,considering that the trauma, physical and psychological harm drugs do to the society, especially the youths, cannot be over emphasized .
The Comptroller confirmed that his personnel have great synergy and cordial working relationship with all the sister security agencies at the border, moreso NDLEA
Essien , further appreciated the collaboration between his Agency and Customs, attributing the success of the seizure to such synergy.
He assured that his Agency would ensure that the Brains behind smuggling of illicit drug into the country, were apprehended, while enjoining other sister agencies at the border, to up their level of cooperation, to enable them achieve their set goals and objectives .
