It was an ostentatious gathering of Igbo Dignitaries, a sort of roll call of who is who in the affairs of Ohanaeze Ndigbo World Wide, lagos State branch,as the group held its first General Assembly meeting, aimed at re-strategizing it’s operations and activities in 2025.
According to the Group’s General Secretary, Chief Robert Obasi,the successful and peaceful meeting was held March 1, 2025, at the Great Villa Hotel, located at 36/38 Nathan Street off Tejuoshuo Road, Ojuelegba, Lagos State.
The highly elated and excited Chief Obasi, told News Planet International Correspondent during an interview shortly after the meeting, that “the event was marked by an atmosphere of celebration and solidarity among distinguished guests and members of the community”.
While giving account of the meeting, Chief Obasi noted that”the gathering saw the presence of notable dignitaries, including the esteemed first President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State, Chief John Uche, the former Deputy President of Ohanaeze Lagos, Chief Vitus Uzor, and the Coordinator of Ohanaeze Ndigbo South West, Chief Everest Ozonweke.
Other prominent attendees included the Traditional Prime Minister, Prince Ubochi C. Ubochi, the current President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State Branch, Chief Sunday Ossai, and various executives and members, including the former Women Wing Secretary General of Ohanaeze Worldwide, Lady Ada Oforegbu.
The meeting also highlighted the branch’s commitment to representing the interests of the Ndigbo community, showcasing the transformations that have occurred to better serve its members.
Chief Sunday Ossai, inaugurated a Bye -Law Review Committee during the meeting, encouraging its members to approach their responsibilities as a dedicated service to the Ndigbo people.
Barrister Lawrence Nweke, the chairman of this committee, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and pledged that the committee would work diligently to accomplish its goals.
Throughout the event, many dignitaries, including Chief John Uche, Chief Vitus Uzor, Chief Everest Ozonweke, and Eze Okey Anoura, delivered goodwill messages that emphasized the importance of unity within the Ndigbo community.
They collectively underscored the need for a strengthened sense of belonging and shared identity, which is vital for fostering cohesion among the Ndigbo.
Despite attempts to disrupt the meeting by Solomon Ogbonna, who reportedly intended to involve armed police officers, the police ultimately commended the leadership of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State Branch for their exemplary conduct.
However, the attempted disruption by Aguene,reinforced the respect and acknowledgment the branch has earned within the community.
The meeting was celebrated not only as a significant administrative gathering but also as a victory party, with numerous photo sessions capturing the joyous moments shared among members.
The chairman of all chairmen led a delegation representing 57 local government chairmen, accompanied by women’s and youth leaders, demonstrating a broad commitment to the cause.
In addressing Solomon Ogbonna’s disruptive behavior, speakers advised him to seek constructive and genuine means of living, emphasizing that such actions only undermine his own reputation.
In conclusion, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Lagos State Branch emerged from this event with renewed vigor and commitment.
The assembly marked a pivotal moment in their journey towards enhancing the unity and representation of the Ndigbo community, affirming their stance: “We have come alive.”
