Nigerians have commended Michelle Alozie despite crashing out of the 2023 World Cup

The Super Falcons star starred against the Lionesses in the round-of-16 encounter

Alozie featured in all of Nigeria’s games at the World Cup but missed her last kick

Nigeria may be out of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, but Nigerians are delighted with the Super Falcons  especially Michelle Alozie despite her penalty miss against England.

The Super Falcons defender put on another impressive performance as England knocked out the 11-time African champions via penalties after a goalless game in regular time.

Alozie was key for Nigeria, frustrating England’s best player, Lauren James, throughout the encounter and eventually getting her sent off when the Chelsea forward lost her cool by stamping on her, as Sport Bible reported.

The Super Falcons eventually lost the high-pressure knockout game 4-2 via a post-match penalty shootout, with the defender and Desire Oparanozie missing their respective spot kicks.

However, Alozie featured in every game for Nigeria at the World Cup, making three appearances in the group phase and also against England in the Round of 16.

Meanwhile, Nigerians have gone on social media to appreciate the Super Falcons defender despite the national team crashing out of the tournament.

One fan reckoned James could not dribble past the Super Falcons defender  and hailed the 26-year-old defender as a queen.

Another Nigerian fan stated the country is proud of Alozie and the Nigerian team,more Nigerians had more praise for Alozie after the England defeat.

The 26-year-old, who plays for the American side, Houston Dash, was also hailed as a national hero.

Alozie was born in Apple Valley in California to Nigerian parents from Imo in the South Eastern part of the country.The American-born was one of Nigeria’s best players at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup as they reached the Round of 16.

According to Alozie, she was inspired by Italian forward, Mario Balotelli, who was her favourite since her college soccer days.
