Mushin area of Lagos State was last Saturday, November 16,2024, literally set on royal festive fire, as Eze Ndigbo 1 in Mushin Land and Odi Olowo, His Highness,Eze Ambassador Peter C. Umeh,JP, popularly known as Janganza,in solid amity with his Cabinet Chiefs of the popular ‘Obi – Ukwu Ndigbo Na’ Mushin Palace’, celebrated their 2024 Igbo Day and New Yam Festival (Iri-ji) ,in a unique grand style.
The occasion which many dignitaries and guests described as “a well organized solemn event devoid of rowdyness “, took place at his palatial Palace located at 15, Agorobogunbolu Street, off Sadiku Street, opposite Vulganizer bus stop, Ilasamaja, Mushin, lagos State.
Classed as unique and matured, the festival started around 12 Noon ,with the traditional royal dance from outside the palace back to the palace auditorium, where Eze Umeh , his Cabinet Chiefs led by High Chief Jude Ejeagha, Onowu Ndigbo of Mushin Land,
High Chief Ossy Umeugo ,the Chairman of Obi Ukwu Ndigbo Na’ Mushin,
Chief Mrs. Jugai ,Ada Igbo of Odi Olowo ,Chief Malachy and some guests exhibited and flaunted rare traditional regal dancing steps ,symbolizing Igbo dance heritage , even as the indigenous Flutist (Ogbu- Oja), drummers, gong beaters , other musicians provided nerve and soul relaxing songs to the admiration , relaxation of dignitaries , guests and the Yoruba host community.
Depicting his artistry and mastering of royal father’s dance steps, Eze Umeh, who was clad in an immaculate up and down white material with a red cultural cap, while breaking the traditional Igbo kola nut, poured libations and prayed for peace ,long life and success of his subjects, National political leadership and the entire country at large.
Besides the exhibition and display of different Igbo cultural musical rendition, assorted foods and drinks where not in short supply, as guests had much to eat and drink, while some took food packages home
To show how grand and exclusive the ceremony was, a King from South – East, His Royal Majesty, Obikaenyi L,O, Ezenwa,Igwe of Nkataukwu Ohazurume of Umuomaku,the Onunaekwuruora 11 of Umuomaku and some top Ndieze Ndigbo such as Eze Ndigbo in Ikeja, Eze Uche Dimgba, popularly known as “Okpotemba”; Eze Ndigbo in Ejigbo, His Excellency ,Eze Ambassador Nicholas Njoku; Eze Ndigbo in Oshodi, Eze Ruben Ezeibeakanma, Eze Udenmba of Ezinifite; Eze John Gregg Ezebuadi,Ezeigbo of Iba Land, President of Eze Ndigbo in 12 Southern States ,South – South and South – west; Eze Augustine Ebis,Eze Ndigbo of Ojudu berger,
Financial Secretary of Ndieze in Council Lagos State; Eze Okpaga ,Eze Ndigbo of Bucknor/ Ejigbo; Eze Engr. Aloysius Ahize,Eze Ndigbo of Ikate ,Surulere, Lagos , to mention just a few, were on grand to witness and participate in the eating of the New yam,”Iri-ji festival.
Others guests that graced the event are, Mr. Innocent Nwafor, the Chairman of Awalasi Community, Lagos Branch,Comrade Prince Saviour Ichie, National President, Ambassador for Peace Enlightenment Foundation,
Chief Chris Eze ,the President of Aguata Progressive Union and the entire Management team of Clifford Kidney Foundation International .
In appreciation of individual efforts,, Eze Umeh and his Palace Chiefs honored Elder Noel Okoli and four others with awards , for their numerous contributions and human development in Mushin.
To cap it all, Eze Chimereze Peter C Umeh, in recognition of his immense contributions in lagos State, was decorated with double awards for his decades of outstanding records, efforts to humanity and humanitarianism ,by Mother Theresa Wellness And Development Organization and Clifford Kidney Foundation International .
