In what has been described as a massive show of Force and solid Amity, every section and arm of the Apex Pan Igbo Socio-Cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo World Wide lagos State Chapter, yesterday, trooped out to the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department ,FCIID, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi Lagos State, in active solidarity with their leaders ,who were invited by the police over the Leadership tussel and petition filed by Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene.
Contrary to the report by an online Newspaper on the outcome of the Igbo leaders invitation and subsequent meeting with Deputy Commissioner Of Police,DCP Ime Udofia of the Homicide Section at FCIID Alagbo , Ohanaeze Ndigbo leadership reported that the session went quite well.
While giving an update, the Secretary General, Chief Robert Obasi, noted that it was evident that the representatives sent by Solomon Ogbonna lacked a thorough understanding of the organizational history and values of Ohanaeze Worldwide.
He said thus : “Their submissions were disappointingly shallow and disjointed, to the point that DCP Udofia had to intervene and make corrections throughout the interview.
Interestingly, DCP Udofia also took the opportunity to caution them against disseminating false information to the media, especially in light of the inaccuracies surrounding their sponsored publication over last Saturday’s Police visit to the meeting venue.
After the police interview, DCP Udofia informed all parties that he has rescheduled another round of discussions for Tuesday next week.
The Police Chief emphasized the importance of all parties bringing any evidence they can present to support their claims.
Funny though,it was observed that Solomon Aguene and his group, made futile attempt to ensure that Eze Christopher Offia and Chief Sunday Ossai were detained ,however, the police made it clear that their primary role is to maintain law and order.
The Police team however stated that social and cultural organizations have the right to conduct their activities without undue interference.
DCP Udofia urged all parties involved to remain calm and cooperative while the investigation is ongoing.
In a memo depicting a vivid account of the meeting at FCIID Alagbon, the South West Coordinator of the group, Chief Everest Ozonweke, stated thus : “The members of the Lagos State Chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo visited the Force Headquarters, Lagos, Monday where they told the authorities that Chief Sunday Ossai is the duly elected president of the chapter.
It would be recalled that Solomon Ogbonna, the erstwhile president of the organization, had written a petition to the police wherein he asked them to stop a meeting of the organization scheduled to hold in March 1.
The police were at the meeting and after listening to explanations provided by the officials of the organization, allowed the meeting to hold and asked Eze Chris Offiah, Chairman of Eze-in-Council and Chief Sunday Ossai, President of the Lagos State chapter to come Force Headquarters and provide more facts on Monday.
On Monday, March 3rd, 2025, Chief Ossai and Eze Offiah led other members of Ohanaeze to Force Headquarters where they were received by Deputy Commissioner of Police Ime Udofia, who listened to the presentations and fixed another day for more investigations that will lead to a decision.
Eze Offia, Chief Ossai, Chief Robert Obasi, secretary of the chapter; Chief Everest Ozonweke; Coordinator SW, Prince Ubochi C. Ubochi, the Traditional Prime Minister of Amaifeke in Imo State and others told the police officer that Ogbonna’s tenure had expired and that Ossai is duly elected president of Ohanaeze in Lagos State.
Speaking after the meeting, Eze Offiah said that all he wants is for peace to reign in the organization.
He stated that it was unnecessary to invite him, adding that he provided information and acts that threw light to the issues.
Eze Offiah thanked fellow Ezes and other members of the organization that came to the place to support him.
He also thanked the police for the way members of the organization were treated.
According to him, the police were cordial and civil in the way they related with the organization.
He charged members to remain calm and peaceful, adding that the issue will soon be resolved.
However, Chief Ossai, said that he was duly elected and remains the legitimate president of the organization. He added that he stands on the truth and will prevail in the end.
Meanwhile Mrs Violet Uchenna, a former woman leader of Ohanaeze during the term of Solomon as president, said that Solomon did not carry other members of the executive along and nobody knew that he had gone to court to obtain a consent judgement, adding it was a few days to the election that the former president told them that he had a judgement elongating his tenure from four years to eight years against the national constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide and Lagos State By-law .
The Southwest coordinator Chief Everest Ozonweke thanked the Police authorities for their maturity in handling the situation while promising to offer impartial evidence that will help the police in their investigation as he was the secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State during the time of Chief Solomon Ogbonna as the President.
He stated that the crisis emanated from greed and elusive quest for power to enable some elements have their way for the 2023 general elections .
Prince Ubochi urged Solomon Ogbonna to bow out in honor and give peace a chance ,having served out his term in flying colours.
