Emefiele In Court, Pleads Not Guilty, Gets N20 M Bail

The suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele has pleaded not-guilty on Tuesday , at the Federal High Court in Lagos, to a charge of illegally possessing firearm.
He was accused of two offenses related to alleged gun possession by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Emefiele is charged with violating Section 4 of the Firearms Act and Section 27 (1b) of the same Act for allegedly possessing a single-barrel shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without a license in the first count.
The Court granted the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, bail in the sum of N20m with one surety in like sum .
Emefiele is facing two counts of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition preferred against him by the Federal Ministry of Justice before the vacation judge, Justice Nicholas Oweibo.
The ministry of justice is prosecuting him on charges of possessing a single-barrelled shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without a licence.
He is also being accused of having 23 rounds of live ammunition without a licence.
Emefiele was said to have committed the offences on June 15, 2023.
