ABOMINATION : Teenage Mother, Grandmother, Who Conspired And Murdered Their Newborn Baby With Knife, Faces Police Intense Scrutiny

Following protest by the aggrieved women of Olocha -Adogba community in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, over alleged conspiracy and November 7th ,2022 murder of a newborn baby with a knife, by the teenage mother, identified as 18 year – old Ada – Joy Okonkwo and grandmother, a 60 year old Christiana Okonkwo, Police yesterday sued for calm, re-assuring of meticulous investigation and prosecution of the suspects in a record time.
According to the Image Maker of the Enugu State Police command, Mr. Daniel Ndukwe, a Deputy Superintendent of Police,DSP, Commissioner of Police,CP Ahmed Ammani , has ordered thorough investigation and prosecution of the suspects while enjoining residents of the community to maintain calm and be supportive
In a press statement released and dated November 11, 2022, DSP Ndukwe Stated that “CP Ahmed Ammani has ordered the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (SCIID) Enugu to thoroughly investigate the case of alleged conspiracy and murder of a newborn male child (infanticide), by the mother of the child, one Ada Joy Okonkwo aged 18, and her mother, one Christiana Okonkwo of about 60 years old, at Olocha-Adogba in Awgu community of Awgu L.G.A., on 7th November, 2022, at about 1pm.”
Preliminary investigation, he said,” shows that the said mother of the newborn child used a kitchen knife to stab the child to death, following the counseling of her mother, moments after she was delivered of the baby at home. The child was taken to the hospital and confirmed dead by the doctors on duty, while the corpse was deposited in the mortuary for preservation and aut
Reiterating the command’s earlier stand, the Public Relations Officer further Stated that ” To this end, the Commissioner has called on citizens of the community, particularly the women who carried out a peaceful demonstration to express their disgust over the act, to maintain peace and avoid acts that could lead to the breakdown of law and order in the community. He urges them to be supportive, while reiterating that the case will be meticulously investigated and prosecuted within record time.”
