7 ‘ Eiye’ Confraternity Members In Police Net, As Lagos CP Wage War Against Cultists In Ikorodu Area

Seven members of the dreaded ‘ Eiye’ Confraternity, who were hitherto said to be terrorising ikorodu areas of Lagos State, have met their waterloo. The suspects who were said to have been arrested following the Police commands renewed vigor to rid the State off cultism, are believed to be cooling off their heels at the police detention facility in Lagos. This is even as the State Police Command recently reaffirmed that fighting cultism, was essential to fighting and curbing crimes and criminality in Lagos .
Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, made the assertion on 29th November, 2020, in his Ikeja office while reviewing, with the staff officers and sectional heads at the command Headquarters, the strategies being put in place by the command to curb crimes and criminality, particularly cultism and hooliglism, in the State.
CP Odumosu who confirmed the arrest of seven suspected members of Eiye Confraternity at Agura area, Ikorodu, Lagos state, by police operatives attached to Imota Division on Saturday 28th November, 2020 at 2pm.
The suspected cultists were alleged to have attacked the officials of a Vigilante Group, popularly called Agbekoya, in the area on the same date to revenge the recent arrest or attack on one of their group members by the Vigilante group. They caused varying degrees of injury on the Vigilante officials using machetes and guns.
Suspects arrested included ABOLAJI ARBAYO, 21 years, JOSIAH OFFEM, 37 years, OLUWAPELUMI OYEYINKA, 25 years, LAMIDI TAOFEEQ, 41 years, AHMED SHITTU,48 years (Driver of their operational vehicle), Miss ZAINAB NURUDEEN, 20 ( the armourer who sources for guns to operate) and RABIU GANIYU, 25 years. Others who were said to have been in possession of dangerous weapons, fled the scene on sighting the police. Items recovered from them included machetes and some charms, one green Varagon bus with Reg No LAGOS APP 600 XA that was used by the suspects for their operations.
Odumosu, had directed that the case be transferred to the State CID Panti for proper investigation, which he believes would send signals to other cultists and men of the under world that Lagos State will be too hot for them to operate or hibernate.
He therefore ordered the Department of Operations, to reduce his directives on anti crime strategies of the command into a signal and circulate same to all police stations and formations in the command for strict compliance with immediate effect.
