Police Inspector Goes Berserk, Kills A Sergeant While Shooting Sporadically

A Police Inspector , Monday Gabriel , attached to the Police Mobile Force Squadron Unit 21, Abuja, but said to be on special duty in a Federal Government Facility in Lagos, has gone berserk, shooting sporadically and in the process, killed a Sergeant identifiedas Felix Okago, who was his colleague.
In a release by the Lagos State Police Command, the Police officer has been arrested for the unruly behaviour which led to the death of a Sergeant.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Bala Elkana , in his press statement , stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Odumosu Hakeem, has ordered an indepth investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to DSP Elkana, “On May 31, 2020 , at about 4 .30 pm, Area A Command received a distress call that one Inspector Monday Gabriel from No 21 Police Mobile Force Squadron Abuja, on Special duty in a Federal Government facility in Ikoyi Lagos, went berserk and started shooting sporadically. One Sergeant Felix Okago who was on Special duty with the Inspector, died from the gunshot injuries while others escaped unhurt.
In an attempt to escape, the suspect was said to have taken a patrol van and headed towards third mainland bridge, shooting as he was escaping.
He was however intercepted by Policemen from Bariga Division along Akoka, disarmed, handcuffed and his rifle with vehicle were recovered.
DSP Elkana, also said that the corpse of the deceased Sergeant has been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy , while the Inspector was taken to Police Hospital for medical examination as he was said to have presented signs of mental depression.
” The Commissioner of Police has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of investigation to take over the investigation. The Command deeply condoles with the family of the fallen colleague who paid the supreme price in service to his fatherland”, Elkana stated.
