STAKEHOLDERS COMMEND CRAN, SAYS ‘PROLIFERATION OF DRUGS, BANE OF INSECURITY’

Security Stakeholders who converged at this year’s Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria, CRAN, 30th Annual Lecture and Award Ceremony , held on thursday , November 25th , 2021, at the Sheraton Hotel, Lagos, have commended the initiative of the group.

They however lamented the high level of insecurity in the country and the increasing rate of drug abuse, which they agree has informed banditry, kidnapping, crime and criminality.

The National President of CRAN, Sunday Odita , set the ball rolling by calling for a complete synergy between all security agencies, noting that CRAN was well disposed working with all agencies to curb insecurity in the the country.
In his epic address, the Oluwo of Iwo kingdom, His Royal Majesty Abdul Ràsheed Akanbi, called for death penalty for corrupt persons and life sentence for their accomplices.

The respected royal father also enjoined government at all levels to fashion out a program that would create job for the restive youths who have resorted to drug taking.
Hakeem Odumosu, the Lagos State Police helmsman, at the occasion assured Lagosians of their safety during the festive period.

While inviting robbers to come to the state, he however,asked them ‘to write their will, before venturing on the Lagos trip’.
In their respective presentations, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA and the Directorate of State Security, DSS, lamented the sharp increase in drug usage among the youths in the country.

Kalus Alumona, who spoke on behave of NDLEA disclosed that the Chairman of the Agency , Gen. Buba Marwa, is determine to bring an end to drug importation and put a stop to the use of drugs in the country. Dennis Amachree , Ex- Director of the Directorate of State Service, DSS, observed that drug use by youths was a major problem which has further fuelled the crime rate in the country.

For the Kogi state government, to effectively tackle the security challenges in the country, government at all levels should invest in education.
Speaking at the CRAN occasion, through his spokesman, Mr. Jerry Omodara, governor Yahaya Bello, disclosed that Kogi State invests 30 per cent of her budget on education.

Governor Bello therefore called on other states, to emulate Kogi state to eradicate illiteracy which he said is yet another cause of the huge challenges facing the nation.

The event was rounded up with a raffle draw and recognition of 40 respected Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in their various fields of human endeavors.

James Umeji,CEO Jim Best Auto, CLEEN Foundation, CSP Mustapha Rasheed, DPO Ijanikin Division and Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu amongst others.
